Hockey!

Not sure if you're coming to the gig on Friday? Well, drop whatever you're doing and make sure to come out to this one! Playing for the Hockey team is a completely different experience from any other gig, and I daresay is the funnest of the gigs we have available. Be prepared to have both teams beating the crap out of each other the whole game, and yell unflattering things about the opposing teams (and their fans!) parental heritage. Don't forget to bring a sweatshirt or jacket (yes kids, ice is cold).

Also note that this game is vs. UCI - last time they came down, they pussied out and didn't want to play the game because "it was too late". Lets make sure to remind them of their disrespect from last year.

Saturday we'll be showing a pepband favorite, Anchorman, to mellow out after hockey game and explore our repressed feelings for common furniture. Keep an eye on the mailing lists for more details.

Sunday and Spirit Suggestions

For those not in the know, this Sunday is the last basketball game of the quarter. We know it's an unusual date and time, but throw aside the homework you're not actually doing for a couple hours and join us in cheering on our awesome team!

With basketball on the brains, start thinking of some ideas for Spirit Night next quarter. This is a big event, and the night after (Also known as alumni night) we come up with some crazy theme for costumes to wear to the game.

But where, o might webmaster, should we make these suggestions? There just so happens to be a forum for discussion on just these sorts of topics. You'll find the spirit night thread in the Member's Section.

**** Don't have access to the member's section? Go to usergroups and join "Pep band Memebrs".

Unpuctual Update

Word has it everyone is at Disneyland today, due to there being a Holiday and all. So don't show up to rehearsal today! Enjoy the day off!

Action Packed Weekend

Hey peppy-peeps, prepare for plentiful playing! Lots of stuff going on this weekend. Here are the details:

  • Light the Night: This is a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society to help fund research to cure this diseases. We'll be playing to start off the people walking around the Stadium and livening up the event. This event is at Qualcomm.

  • Boo parade!: This is a parade, so be prepared to amble, shuffle or pretend to march. Also, this is supposed to be in costume, so throw together a costume before this weekend! This event is over by SDSU.

  • Crazy Hat Night: For our WVB game this Saturday, remember to bring some odd head adornment.

  • JDRF Walk: This is another fundraiser to help support research to cure Juvenile Diabetes. I know it's early, but come support a good cause!

Oddly enough, this week constitutes almost the end of gigs for this quarter. November/December is pretty light, so get out all of your energy playing now so you can concentrate on mideterms/finals for the rest of the quarter.

Tritons Only Game Announcement

Break out the sheets, tridents and crowns, for this Saturday we will be starting a new tradition of attending as Tritons! Bonus points for having the beard, and I will personally buy you a cookie if it's authentic. If you don't want to wear your sheet due to not having washed it in three months, consider this fair warning to do so before Saturday!

One Great Rehearsal

Rehearsal this week is in the Great Hall. Don't know where that is? It's the big glass building above the Pangea parking structure, between the Marshall Uppers/IRPS and ERC.

Of course, if that doesn't help you can take a look at the map!

A Quickie

For those not in the know: Show up in front of RIMAC (at the top, where the tables are) for breakfast. Afterwards, we'll grab stuff from the closet then head to the soccer stands on the north side of RIMAC field. See everyone there!

Not your typical band camp

Start college off right! Start making friends and memories at the 4th annual UCSD PepBand retreat this 16th and 17th of September (Tues/Wed). We'll be playing tons of music and showing you how the Pepband has a good time. Orientations will be taking place Thursday and Friday but those of you without these obligations can get to know the beaches and downtown San Diego with us during those days after the retreat! All, new and old, are welcome! Sign up today so we can provide you with some food and shelter for however many days necessary. See you in September!

More information about schedule and such will be posted here as we decide on everything.

Show your Pride

Hello Everyone!

Summer treating you well? I know you all miss tootin' your horns, so we've got our annual fab-u-lous summer gig, the San Diego Pride Parade!
We'll be having rehearsal for it on Friday night, 7pm in the Green Room. Be there if you want to play Saturday, please! We're all a tad out of practice.

The Pride Parade itself is in Hilcrest, where Paul lives, so we will be meeting at his place at 8:45 am on Saturday. Bring your horn but not your Hawaiian shirt- they provide shirts for us, but just in case, wear your Sungod shirt. If you would like, Paul is offering up his place to crash the night before.

Got that? Friday night and Saturday morning: you, your peeps, and a whole lotta pride. If you're in San Diego, come out and join us! Please email us if you will be there so we know how many shirts to ask for.

All Campus Commencement

Don't forget tomorrow! We're playing for the first all campus commencement ceremony, featuring a keynote from RFK Jr. Chancellor Fox, free food, awards, and other goodies. Meet at 5:58 around the closet, or on RIMAC field. Hope to see everyone out there who's still in SD!

Welcome the new officers!

Another great year has come and gone, and like all things there must be an ending and a beginning. I'd like to congratulate all those graduating, and all the officers of this year for making the pepband an awesome organization.

With that said, I'd like to officially welcome the new officers:
  • Manager: Amanda Irvine
  • Assistant Manager: Ryland Fallon
  • Secretary: Sarah Steinman
  • Treasurer: Tsukasa Takahashi
  • Head Conductor: Scott Levine
  • Public Relations: Roze Eveleth
  • Music Librarian: Jason Moore
  • Peptide: Brian Favela
  • Historian: Allie Ashie
  • Webmaster: Caleb Crawford
  • Hypnotoad: The Glorious Hypnotoad

Don't forget that coming up this week we have some fun replacement for rehearsal tomorrow (to be announced later) and the Watermelon Drop on Friday.

[ 2008.05.18 ]

Deciding the fate of the universe

Everyone remember that elections for next year's officers is during rehearsal this week! If you aren't able to make it to rehearsal, mail your votes to the officers and we'll make sure it gets counted.

[ 2008.04.28 ]

Who needs updates?

Another great Davis has rolled by. For those who haven't noticed yet, pictures are up! We also have a pretty good recording of the Davis Entrance/Video Game Theme (This works for me in media player classic but crashes windows media player, YMMV).

Note we have a gig this week! We're playing for a community event so please come out and show off the band!

Things to think about post-Davis:
  • Officer elections! The band will only continue running as long as we have people willing to step up and keep it going. Take some time to consider if you'd like to be one of these fine people next year, or if you know someone who would be great in one of those positions.
  • Bandquet! This is our end of the year bonanza, so make sure the clear the last weeked of May for it.

Spring is the thing

Welcome back everyone, hope you enjoyed your Spring Break. Just to let everyone know, Spring quarter is pretty light on gigs. So use the extra time to practice the Davis Theme, get your costume together and actually manage to study a little! Davis is coming up in three weeks, so don't procrastinate!

[ 2008.03.16 ]

Finals be here

A flurry of website updates in time for finals. Good luck on finals everyone, and enjoy your spring break afterwards!

[ 2008.03.11 ]

Week 10 Updates

First off, great job to everyone that made it out to San Bernardino. We had some excellent playing and helped both our teams play very well! It looks like our Men's team is headed to Alaska as their first post-season game.

For those wondering what's going on today, we're proposing these alternatives to our regularly scheduled peptastic rehearsals:

  • 8pm - ONPS '08 Showcase A - Galbraith Hall 157 - FREE
  • 9pm - The Golden Compass - Price Center Theater - $3
  • Anytime: Forgetting homework & studying and getting ice cream (or other goodies!)
Also, Jason will be at the closet handing out new music. If you need any of the new songs we've passed out recently, or are missing any song from your book go see Jason! He'll be there from 7-8pm.

If you're unsure what everyone is doing or getting bored, don't hesitate to drop a message to pepband-chat. Otherwise, good luck with projects and finals!

[ 2008.03.08 ]

Champs R Us

Both our basketball teams won their games yesterday, so today we're fighting to continue on to the title of CCAA champions! If you can possibly make it out, we need the numbers to come out and help support the teams. Otherwise, wish us luck!

[ 2008.03.06 ]

Gator Golf

Both our basketball teams made it to the CCAA semi-finals, so we'll be headed out to San Bernardino to support them as they fight for the championship. If you haven't e-mailed Jason already you're SOL and not coming. There is still a volleyball game Friday, so you can show up and support them if you're missing out on the BerDoo action.

This may not be completely accurate, but plan to meet at the Loading Dock for rides around 2:45ish so we can leave for San Bernardino by 3pm.

[ 2008.03.03 ]

Cheer on the Champions

So both our basketball teams are in the runnings for NCAA Div 2 champions, so we have a couple more games to play at! Instead of rehearsal Tuesday, we'll be cheering on our women's basketball team. This means that call time is at 6:27pm, so make sure you're not showing up late at the normal rehearsal time!

[ 2008.02.20 ]

Bombastic Bullets

  • New pirate related pictures have been posted.
  • Davis Theme is Video Games! Suggestions for music, costumes and props are being discussed here
  • Make sure to contact Amanda if you are going to Davis and haven't signed up yet!
  • The game Saturday is at Cal Poly Pomona! Make sure to be there on time or you will miss the bus and be lame.

[ 2008.02.13 ]

Avast ye swabs

Just a reminder, the game Friday is pirate night! Any land-lubbin' bilge-rats that don't show up in proper regalia will be forced to walk the plank.

[ 2008.02.05 ]

Return of rehearsal

For those that became out of sync due to our run of gigs instead of rehearsals, rejoice! for we go back to our regularly scheduled rehearsals this week. Also, we'll be deciding on Davis themes quite soon, so submit any new themes you'd like to see to the officers via e-mail or the topic in the forum.

**UPDATE**: Athletics wants us to play at the two basketball games this weekend, which contradicts the schedule we originally posted. We had the next double-double header weekened for next week, but we decided it'd be better to give everyone the three day weekend off and do the double header this week! So try and show up to both games this weekend, and enjoy the long weekend next week.

[ 2008.01.28 ]

A small reminder

Reminder: We have a basketball game tomorrow instead of rehearsal, and it's an hour earlier! Make sure to show up at 6:17 if you can. Also, new pictures are up for your perusal in both sections.

[ 2008.01.18 ]

A flurry of fun

We've been recruited to play at a couple of gigs this next week for various sales meetings. Apparently the poor saps that have to sit through meetings all day would like to have some pep added to their life, and we're going to provide them with it! Right now, we have a gig at the Coronado on Wednesday for Beirsdorf, and a potential gig on Tuesday at the Hyatt. Both will earn the band some money, so make sure to come out and help support if you can! Attendance to both gigs will earn you scholarship money for Davis, which will make it considerably cheaper!

I'll post more information about the gig on Tuesday as it comes in. Since we have an incredibly busy week next week, we decided to forgo rehearsal and do something fun instead. Right now there's possible talk of hitting up the Mira Mesa bowling lanes, but feel free to send a suggestion to pepband-chat if you have a better idea!

[ 2008.01.08 ]

We don't need no stinkin rehearsals

Just to note, next week rehearsal will also be including Triton Jam, so show up expecting to help support the teams and show some spirit after we rehearse a litle bit.

On the 29th, there's a Men's Basketball game that night so we are summarily replacing rehearsal with playing at the basketball game. Since the game starts at 7:00pm, we'll need to show up at 6:17pm. That's an hour earlier!!!!

[ 2008.01.01 ]

Out with the old, in with the new

Happy new year everyone!

Winter quarter events are more or less posted, if you want to check our schedule for this next quarter. Also, we finally got some more pictures posted in both sections, so be sure to check them out.
