Week 7 Events

May-14-2012 By Jon

Hello Pep Band,

Hope everyone had a wonderful mother’s day. Whether you were able to go out of town or not, hope everyone’s day was nice and relaxing. We have a pretty relaxed week, but we have some major events so be sure to stop by:

Tuesday, Rehearsal, 7:45 P.M. – 4th Floor Conference Room

We will be rehearsing this week for a very big event we will be playing at later in the week so be sure to come and brush up on your music, especially if you went home for the weekend. We will also start nominations this week, so be prepared to nominate your friends (and even yourself, if you want) for positions. To top it all off, we will be in the conference room since the green room was already booked when I went to reserved it at the end of April, so don’t go to the green room.

Thursday, 10:00 A.M. – LOCATION TBA

The Pep Band has been invited to play at the ceremony welcoming the new chancellor to UCSD. For those of you who may not know, ol’ foxy is leaving us this year and we are brining in a new chancellor. His first time at UCSD will be this Thursday and Athletics has asked us to open up for him during this joyous occasion. It will go until about 11:30 A.M. I will get more information to you as they send it to me, but mark your calendars because we want to have a big, full sounding band for this. Lastly, we have been asked to keep this on the down low, so as exciting as this event is and I’m sure you will all copy and paste the abundant information that I have given you into your statuses, please refrain ( Don’t hate for the silly disclaimer, I’m just passing the request on).

Friday – SUNGOD!!!!!!!

Everyone throw on your Davis costume and we will see you at the dance tent. :p

Have a happy Monday and we will see you all Tuesday.

Best,

Andrew Mandinach

Week 5 Events

Apr-30-2012 By Jon

Hello Pep Band,

Here it is, the midpoint of the quarter! Can you believe we are almost free of that manager and his horrible weekly jokes! With elections and midterms, we are going to take this week easy, but of course make sure to have a little fun. Here is what we have planned:

Tuesday, Rehearsal – 7:45 P.M. – RIMAC Arena

Time to gather round as the manager makes his awful jokes yet again! All kidding aside, this rehearsal is very important because officers will be collecting everyone’s Hawaiian shirts. EVERYONE NEEDS TO BRING IN THEIR HAWAIIAN SHIRT! You will be turning your Hawaiian shirts to your officers since there was a recall on all Hawaiian shirts, apparently there is lead paint inside the shirts and we can’t have people dropping like flies because of a little paint. So turn them in!

Friday, Chocolate Festival – 12:00 P.M. – Sixth College Reshall Quad (RIMAC at 11:20).

It is that time of year again, to stroll on down to the mythical land of Sixth College for their majestic chocolate festival. This wondrous land is rumored to be home of the miim (that’s pronounced meme and spelled with two i’s because apparently that’s how the french do it), however you may know it as the college formally known as Conan O’Brien College, where stars like Andrew James Mandinach I have walked the halls, blessing its courtyards with his peace and harmony! BUT SERIOUSLY….. about the event: we will play for the beginning, enjoy the festivities and then play a little more (this is flexible). Everyone had a fun time last year and we are planning on doing exactly that this year. So talk to your section leaders before Tuesday and let them know if you can make it or not.

Friday, BONFIRE, 9:00 P.M. – (RIDES AT SunGod at 8:45). La Jolla Shores

So we are going down to shore where sally sells seashells, to sacrifice some sort of meat to the pagan gods over an open fire. There may even be a little ceremony that involves the new hawaiians that won’t have lead in them after the officers have de-lead-ified them. So make sure you are there, it’s going to be MAGICAL!

Notes:

I mentioned earlier that it is time for elections. Next week (week 6), we will be nominating people for positions. You are allowed to nominate yourself and/or your friends. If you are thinking about becoming an officer, I would recommend talking to those in the position now to see what it takes and what you would have to do. It is a lot of fun, and hard work but the motivational poster on my wall tells me it doesn’t feel like work when it’s fun. :D

See you all on Tuesday!

Best,

Andrew Mandinach

Hey Pep Band,

So Davis is finally here. We have a pretty calm week so as to let people get ready, and then we hit it first thing Friday morning. Here is what we have planned:

Tuesday, 7:45 P.M. Rimac Arena, – LAST REHEARSAL BEFORE DAVIS

So just to spice things up this week, we are not going to be in the green room, given that it was booked before I was able to do so. But ’tis alright. We shall be practice playing and marching our intro for part of the time and the rest of the time we can move either outside (barring any odd weather) or we can move up to the fourth floor conference room, if we must. Regardless meet at the cage at 7:45 as usually to help get instruments etc.

Thursday, 9:00, P.M. SunGod Statue,

Your triton tide will be hosting the annual prayer to sungod for good weather at davis ritual. I hope there is a better name for that, that I just don’t remember, but if not, that is what it shall be named. It is an age old, fun tradition, that has worked for as long as tritons have been able to pray to the god of sun! So come out and sacrifice some chickens and partake in other sacrilegious things, and help make sure we aren’t pissed on during the battle!

Friday, Rimac Loading dock, 10:00 A.M.

We will meet at RIMAC at 10:00 to start loading the bus. WE LEAVE AT 11:00, so make sure you are on time, or else! If you have class that you cannot skip, then you drop your bags off BEFORE 10:00 A.M., go to class then RUN from class to the bus! Again, we are leaving at 11:00, so make sure you are good to go. Bring a lunch if you want to snack, since we won’t be stopping for a bit.

Saturday: DAVIS

As far as finalized schedules go and itinerary as well as packing list, we will be getting those to you tomorrow. So fear not! Should you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Otherwise, see you all Tuesday.

Best,

Hey Pep Band,

Welcome back from Spring Break, hope it was relaxing! I hope you are all excited for Spring Quarter because we have some amazing things including DAVIS and BANDQUET! So to kick off the quarter, here is what we have planned for this week:

Tuesday, Rehearsal – 7:45 P.M. – RIMAC Green Room

We have three weeks until Davis, which means we are going to cover all those songs you’ve always wanted to play. We are going to be working on both the music and the choreography so put on your musicians hat and your dancing shoes, so be ready to go! Also, for the next three weeks, we will be extending rehearsals until 10:00 P.M.

Saturday, TRITON DAY – 7:30 A.M. Price Center Plaza

So Saturday is Triton Day, the day formerly known as Admit Day! It is always a fun time of trying to sell ourselves to those who will hopefully come next year. So while it is a bit early, we have a few breaks, and they even give us tastey popsicles. So come on out and support the band, the school, the city, the state, and the country, and let’s tell those admits WE WANT YOU!

Note:

Be on the look out, as we will be scheduling some Davis Decorations for later in the week, so keep an eye out for that.

Keep working on you Davis costumes. We dress up as a theme, so make sure you are good to go!

Finally, you have a short amount of time to get your Davis payments in, so be sure to get them in ASAP. If you can, start bringing them in tomorrow!

Welcome back! See you all at rehearsal!

Best,

Week 10 Events

Mar-12-2012 By Jon

Hello Pep Band,

So, since we won yesterday, we are going to be playing at the basketball game tomorrow night. In the interest of keeping things light for week 10, we will be canceling Tuesday’s rehearsal and taking it easy. So here is what we have planned:

Monday, 6:15 P.M. (if you come a little late that is fine) – WOMEN’S BBALL TOURNAMENT- RIMAC Arena

I’d like to think that the team is winning because of how much of a distraction we are to the other team, how much positive energy we put in the air for the team, and just how uplifting our music is as a whole. SO lets make it all happen one more time so we can send the women off to nationals!

Friday, 8:00 P.M. (Rides at SunGod at 7:45) – Bonfire – La Jolla Shores

After a quarter of hard work, amazing sound, and great spirit it is time to come together before finals and just enjoy each others company, some s’mores and relax before finals. So while we have to limit our attendance to the game on Monday, this is your time to come out and see your pep-pals and get your dose of pep for the week before finals!

Have a happy monDAY and we’ll see you tomorrow night!

Week 9 Events

Mar-5-2012 By Jon

Hello Pep Band,

Can you believe it is week 9? Hope everyone is doing alright and almost ready for finals. Check out what we have for the this week:

Tuesday, 7:45 P.M. – Rehearsal – RIMAC Arena

This is our last rehearsal of the quarter, so I figured we would have a normal rehearsal sans Mardi Gras celebrations or CCAA tournament games. We still have a few gigs planned for the rest of the quarter so let’s make sure we are as polished as we can be.

Friday, 6:45 P.M. – NCAA Division II West Regional Women’s Basketball Game

Although we lost the CCAA conference game last Friday, since our ladies are so awesome we won a spot in the NCAA tournament, which means we are back on Friday to sing the ol’ triton fight song! That also means that we are limited by the NCAA rules that we can only have 25 people at the game. So be sure to talk to your section leaders by Tuesday and let them know if you can make it. We will get the lists from them on Tuesday and send it in to athletics. We can’t really fluctuate that much, so be sure to talk to your section leaders and let them know you can go!

Friday, 9:00 P.M. Social Event, Casino Night

Pep Band will be hosting its annual casino night. Come ready to play your favorite casino games and win prizes (and I promise it not to be the gray shirts). So mark your calendars and we will see you all there!

Saturday, 3:00 P.M. Davis Decorations, Mandeville “Basement” (by the graffiti room)

We will be continuing our Davis decorations. If you’ve felt like you just want to give back, now is your time. With just a contribution of your time you can make all the difference in the world. You will get that tingly feeling inside from giving back, so be sure to come out and help the band help you.

Saturday, 6:45 P.M. – NCAA Division II West Regional Women’s Basketball Game

If we win on Friday we get to go on to the next round (makes sense huh?), which means we get to have 25 people come and cheer on the team. Again if you can go be sure to talk to your section leaders and let them know if you can make it or not so we can tell athletics who can make it or not. If we don’t win Friday, we will be having something else for the pep band to do.

See you all Tuesday.

Feb-28-2012 By Jon

Hey Pep Band,

So for those who were wondering, I’m still alive and (kinda) well. I got sick and had to make my way to the mythical land of “Palm Springs” where they say the native hot springs of the Cahuilla Indians can cure everything from asthma, to tuberculosis, to irritable bowel syndrome. I am on my way back to full health and the doctors even say I will walk again some day. So for those holding out and praying for me, here are the events you can expect to see me at:

Tuesday – CCAA Tournament First Round – 6:15 pm – RIMAC Arena

This is going to be a big week for UCSD. The school is hosting the CCAA Basketball tournament, which means we get to watch the number one ranked basketball team in the country kick butt on our own terf. We start the tournament on Tuesday which means we will be turning our rehearsal into a little game time. The game starts at 7, so if you can’t be there at 6:15, but you can come a little later, please come and support the school, cheer on your team, and help fill out your sections.

Friday – CCAA Tournament Round Two – 7:15 p.m. – RIMAC Arena

“Because we are on tv,” we will be pushing the game back later. Which means, 1) everyone comb your hair and look good for your mother. 2) come out it big numbers so the band looks nice and big on camera, ;)

Saturday – DAVIS DECORATING SESSION – MANDEVILLE Hall (by the Graffiti Hall) – 3:00 P.M.

So while we’ve had some difficulties getting started on the paintings, fear not, your fearless leader is back and shall get the painting started! We will be painting in Mandeville, so bring your smocks, your brushes, and be ready to get artsy! We expect pure perfection, so please don’t forget to bring it, and if you do we will have to stone you with frozen balls of paint because the last thing we want is to have silly looking decorations! (for those who didn’t see the sarcasm, that means EVERYONE SHOULD COME OUT AND HELP MAKE DECORATIONS).

Saturday – CCAA Tournament ROUND THREE – 6:45 p.m. – RIMAC Arena

If we win the first two rounds, the next thing they say will happen is that we go to ROUND THREE! So be there or, be anti-american because as they say, if you don’t support the number one nationally ranked women’s basketball team, you must be a commie.

Quick Announcements:

1) Talk to your friends and be ready to sign up for rooms in Davis if you haven’t already

2) Bring Money for payments on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday!

See you all Tuesday!

Andrew Mandinach

Week 6 Events

Feb-13-2012 By Jon

Helllllllooooooooooo Pep Band!!!!!!!!

So we’ve made it through week 5, we are officially half way through the quarter! Let’s just say the quarter is half started. Lame jokes aside, now that we’ve gotten through spirit weekend, picking davis themes, and dancing at the Revelle semi-formal, it is time to get to business. So here is what we have planned for the week:

Tuesday – Rehearsal – 7:45 P.M. – RIMAC Arena

For all you love birds out there this is the night to come out to band and show how much you LOVE PEP BAND! What better way to feel the power of love than coming and rehearsing? I can’t think of any other way to celebrate. So come out for this special rehearsal because we will be not only playing songs, but signing up for room assignments for Davis (four to a room), and word on the street is, in honor of St. Valentine’s Day there may be a scandalous love filled joke (whatever that means).

Friday – Men’s Volleyball – 6:15 – RIMAC Arena

Now that we’ve completed the basketball season, we move onto men’s volleyball. Hope everyone is ready to watch those men hit some balls around, because if not then you are in for a rough night. So whether it is for the short shorts, the balls, or just spending good quality time breaking spirits the brightest and best volleyball men out there, come on out to be with the band!

Friday – Social Activity – Movie Night

Following the game we will all head over to Doug’s house to watch a fun and exciting motion picture feature film. It will be oodles of fun, and just the right way to kick off your weekend. We will be watching the Grosser family home videos from 1995-1998. It will be a great time, and guess what, we will have a Q&A with Doug Grosser, star of the films following. So don’t miss it! …………..but seriously we are doing a movie night.

Saturday – Men’s Volleyball – 6:15 – RIMAC Arena

We are back Saturday night to cheer on our team against the old Stanford ……oh yeah they don’t have an official mascot. Join us (and I mean me) as we (I) yell at Stanford to tell them that a color does not count as a mascot. While many think the tree is their mascot, it is not official, it is the bands mascot, so as good citizens of this fine institution we will school them in what is an acceptable mascot.

Sunday – Davis Decorating – Mandeville (by the tatoo hall) – 12 – 3.

Now that we have a theme, we need to start making decorations. Come join the officers for a fun time of painting and making kandi (the beads that ravers wear). We have a lot of cool ideas, but we need your help to come pull it all off, so if you like painting, being artsy, and having fun with the band, come join us. If you don’t like painting but like to color with a brush inside predrawn lines, and having fun with the band, come join us!

P.S. The webslave apologizes for not posting last week’s events. He has been dutifully chastised and requests that the bricks covered with snakes stop being tossed through his bedroom window. Repairs are getting expensive, people.

Week 4 Events

Jan-30-2012 By Jon

Hey Pep Band,

Spirit week is upon us! Which means it is time to amp up the spirit to level 11, and bring on the cheer (I don’t know what any of that means, but 10 points if you can spot the Spinal Tap reference). It also means, Pep Band Alumni Weekend! So take a look at what we have going on for the week:

Tuesday, 7:45 P.M. – Rehearsal – RIMAC Arena

Time to polish those dance moves, oil up the valves, and replace the pads on your keys. Make sure you are sounding your best before the big night!

Thursday, 12:00 P.M. – Spirit Rally, Price Center Quad

Athletics is putting on their annual spirit rally, which means we get to showcase our talents, lets think of it as a mini spirit night, except not in the gym, without 2/3 of the attendance, and no alumni. Ok, so think of it what you want, but be sure to be there so we can show the campus who we are and that spirit night is awesome because of us (and I guess the athletic teams). Also, it is only an hour, max, so come on out and show your spirit!

Friday, 4:30 P.M. – Spirit Night!!!! BASKETBALL DOUBLE HEADER, RIMAC Arena

Come on out for the big night, starting with the women’s basketball, at 5:30. Our theme is the now traditional “SUPER HAWAIIAN”, so go crazy with decorations. We are getting there a little earlier than normal, because we have decorations to set up, so please come help set up, get into your spirit gear, (hula skirts, and face paint) and make sure to bring what ever costumes you can get for the night! Oh and we are playing Cal State LA, so be prepared to tell them how sad it is that they couldn’t make it to UCLA.

Friday – 10:00 p.m. Social Event

After the game we will go and hang out with the Alumni, since we haven’t seen a lot of them in so long! Be sure to talk to Rose about attendance for the hang out. If you haven’t talked to her yet, please do so and be prepared to do so on Tuesday!

Saturday – Alumni BBQ – Location TBA 12:00 – 4:30 p.m.

With spirit week comes the Annual Alumni BBQ! This event is a ton of fun because we get to chat with the alumni and hear old stories (kinda like when Kirk and Jeff talk about the band) Rides will be at Sun God at 11:30. Be sure to be there, you won’t want to miss it!

Saturday – 4:45 P.M. – Basketball Double Header – RIMAC Arena

After our lovely alumni bbq, we will be heading back together for the double header to cheer on our teams once again. We are playing Cal State Dominguez Hills, which means we get to tell them how sad it is that they couldn’t make it into Cal State LA.

Sunday Feb 5th- 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. (GRADUATING SENIORS ONLY)

After a long and busy weekend we get to end our weekend with the Alumni & Graduating Senior Brunch at Casa de Guadalajara. It is for graduating seniors and alumni only, so if you are either of those be sure to be there.

See you all Tuesday.

Best,

Andrew Mandinach

Week 3 Events

Jan-23-2012 By Jon

Hello Pep Band!

Great job this week, as usual. We made it through another week, which brings us to week 3. Here is what we have planned:

Tuesday – Reharsal, 7:45 P.M. RIMAC Arena

I know last week was technically our first rehearsal, and people haven’t had to get to rehearsal in a month, but try to make sure you get there at 7:45 so we can start promptly at 8. We have a lot to cover. A will continue to dust off songs in preparation for Davis as well as continue nominating themes. This is our last week of nominations so bring your best ideas!

Friday – Men’s Volleyball – 6:15 – RIMAC Arena – CRAZY HAT NIGHT!

The basketball teams are hitting the road which means we get to play at the volleyball game! We are playing the Pepperdine waves (and I thought a seawolf was weird), and nothing says, “hey make fun of me,” like a mascot named Willie the Wave. So bring your spirit, your heckle, and we will see you at 6:15. Oh hey and for an added kick, be sure to wear your craziest (or only) hat to the game. If you don’t do it, you may look silly!

Saturday – Men’s Volleyball – 6:15, RIMAC Arena

That’s right ladies and gentlemen we are back in Rimac to cheer on the men against the USC Trojans. Make your checks payable to UCSD referees so we can pay them more than they will. Its should be an exciting game!

Have a good Monday and we will see you Tuesday!

Best,

Andrew Mandinach
Manager, UCSD Pep Band
