Common Questions:
The following are some commonly asked questions.
Since we are so popular, we thought it might be nice to collect the usual
info so everyone can access it easily.
Well, the short answer is: We are the UCSD Pep Band. Duh! Why would you ask such a stupid question?
Oh, you want to know more?
Well, we're a bunch of current and former college students who love music, sports, and having a good time! The bonds formed in pep band can be disgustingly close at times, and you can bet the memories will last a lifetime!
One thing we are not is a marching band. If you want to march, we certainly won't stop you (unless you are doing it into the wee hours of the morning, that's just unhealthy), but that's not our thing.
If you are into marching, some pepbanders are attempting to start up a marching band this year. Look them up and give them your support! We play at athletic events of all kinds throughout the year including Volleyball, Basketball, Water Polo, Hockey, Baseball, Soccer and anything else we're allowed to attend. We try to liven up the games and support our teams, all while doing what we love-- playing music.
We are also active participants in our community "marching" (more like meandering) in local parades. We'll be the group with large metallic objects/instruments making lots of noise and riling up the crowd with our banter and antics. Triton, in Greek mythology, is a merman and demigod of the sea. He was born by the sea god Poseidon and his wife Amphitrite. He has the head and torso of a human, and the tail of a fish. Triton's special attribute is a twisted seashell, on which he can blow to calm or raise the waves.
The Triton is also the official mascot for UCSD and it's respective sports teams. Once again the answer is short: Anything and everything. Though much of our music is influenced by the eighties and early nineties, we play whatever piques our interest. The music is usually arranged by a member of the band and passed on through the generations. You can hear an older sampling of some of our music here.
You might also want to take a look at some of the new arrangements we've had. You can see them posted here. The Pep Band usually meets for rehearsal at 7:30pm on Tuesday nights throughout the school year. Gigs are typically Friday and/or Saturday evenings. For rehearsals we meet at the RIMAC Green Room. It is located on the Arena level (bottom floor) of RIMAC. You can ask for directions at the front desk or follow the simple map below.
Fight on, with mighty Triton Spirit,
Hail to, the Triton name.
Men and Women march victorious,
on to fame.
Fight on, the Triton host prevails,
march on, in unity -
Bold and strong we fight for
Triton Victory.
U.C.S.D. Fight! Fight! Fight!
Pepband-chat is a mailing list used by pepbanders to
communicate with each other. It is through pepband-chat that we organize
social events and pass along the latest and greatest gossip and jokes. This
is the heart of the band's communication for socialization.
Pepband-event is the mailing list that send out official information on upcoming events and rehearsals. This is used exclusively by the officers to send out important information to the bandsmen.
