Week Four Events

Oct-18-2011 By Jon

Hello Pep Band,

So here we are, week four. We have a very busy week ahead, which means lots of time bonding with your fellow pepsters! This also means DOUBLE DAVIS POINTS! If you come to four of the events on Saturday then you will get double points for Davis, (which means you will pay less at the end of the year when we make our trip up to Davis).

So here it is:

Tuesday – 8:00 P.M. – Rehearsal – RIMAC Green Room

You all know the drill! We are back in our old room, which is nice because it isn’t a full moon out this week, so if we went outside we’d be in the dark.

Friday – 12:00 – CHANCELLORS CHALLENGE – RIMAC Field (Be at the closet at 11:45)

“We have a long tradition here at UCSD,” of playing at the annual Chancellor’s Challenge. This is Chancellor Fox’s last year at UCSD, so make sure to come support her as she challenges the entire school in a 5k run! We get food too, so that is nice.

Friday – Women’s Volleyball – 7:00 P.M. – RIMAC Arena

Our favorite ladies are back! Let’s go cheer for them and help them secure a win against our enemies from the smog-filled north, Cal State LA. Be sure to be at the closet by 6:15 p.m.

Saturday – Boo Parade – 6:45 A.M. (at the closet)

Our first parade of the year and we are starting it off right! It is awesome, because we get to march in costumes (make sure it IS NOT your pep band uniform and is appropriate). Rides and loading of equipment is at 6:45 at RIMAC. The roads close, so we need to get there by 8:00. For drivers, here is the information:

Directions: From Interstate 8, take the College Avenue exit. After exiting, head South on College toward El Cajon Blvd. If you are staged on El Cerrito, 58th N, or Alice (all North of ECB) they can be accessed from Madison Ave. Drop off your participants at Madison Ave. intersection.
Your Parade Section, Staging Area and Space Number: 1- Lucky Lady; staging on 58th Street North, space #5.

Saturday – Post – Boo Parade – Disney Movie Marathon

After the parade and after lunch, Natalie will be holding a Disney Movie Marathon at her place before the Volleyball game in the evening for everyone to relax, nap and hang out. (not part of the double davis points, just a fun activity to hang between gigs)

Saturday – 7:00 P.M. – Women’s Volleyball Game

Yes that’s right, we will be back to cheer on our Triton Ladies! After a nice fun movie night, we will all walk over to RIMAC and watch UCSD beat Cal State Dominguez Hills. Shock ‘em tritons! Don’t forget, 6:15 call time.

Saturday – 10:30 P.M. – ICE HOCKEY – UTC Ice Rink

To end our spectacular day, we will be going to the first UCSD Hockey game of the year against our rivals, the UCLA cubs. They hockey teams loves us, and personally invited the band to make sure we would be there, so we don’t want to disappoint, not to mention hockey is awesome. Be at the closet (RIMAC storage) at 9:30 for rides and we will head over to UTC.

Manager’s Challenge: In honor of the Chancellor’s Challenge this week, I propose a challenge to get me the best joke. Whoever sends me the best joke will get a prize. You are only allowed to send me one joke. The winner’s will be announced during rehearsal, and will get a secret surprise!

Extra, extra: This week only, get your Pep Band sweatshirt at a discounted price of $25. If you buy it this week before the Hockey Game, then you can get it for $25 and save $10. It can get cold during the games, so you will want to represent!

So we have a busy week ahead of us, but trust me it is fun! You won’t want to miss any of it!

See you all Tuesday!

Best,

Andrew Mandinach
Manager, UCSD Pep Band

Week 3 Events

Oct-10-2011 By Jon

Hello Pep Band!

Here is what we have planned for week 3:

Tuesday Rehearsal – 8:00 P.M. RIMAC

So there was a confusion with the booking and we can’t play in the green room this week. We will be playing in the gym to practice like we play! So be ready to practice your music as well as your dance moves!

Friday – Men’s Water Polo against UCSB – 6:00 P.M. (Call time 5:30)

So we may not have won today, but the band sounded great and the audience loved us (when don’t they), so lets go out and cheer on our team and show those Gauchos that even if they kick our butts, we still sound awesome!

Saturday – Roller Blading – 6:00 P.M.

All of our teams are on the road, so we get to hang out and bond! So come out for a fun evening of roller blading, we may even go so far as to get dinner after! Hooray for bonding!

Additional info: For those of you who haven’t paid for books and shirts and various other charges, be sure to bring your money to rehearsal and make sure to give it to Rose.

Also, the band is selling selling sweatshirts! If you are looking for official Pep Band gear we will be selling sweatshirts and other goodies before and after rehearsal, so talk to your section leaders to find out more info about how you can suit up, pep band style!

See you all on Tuesday!

Best,

Andrew Mandinach

Hello Pep Band!

You all made it. Congrats on getting through the first week of school! Only 10 more until winter break, but who has time to count when you are busy with pep band? Here is what is up for this week:

Tuesday – Rehearsal – 7:45 P.M. – RIMAC GREEN ROOM

That is right, rehearsal is back in our old stomping ground, the green room. Fun, familiar, and close, who could ask for more. See you there for another week of fun practice!

Wednesday – Women’s Volleyball Game 7:00 P.M. (6:15 call time)

Our first and only Wednesday women’s volleyball game of week 2! How special! Come out and help cheer on our Triton ladies against Cal State San Bernardino! Lets show those Coyotes not to mess with Triton ladies!

Friday – Social Activity – 8:00 P.M. (7:30 at sun god)

Remember how we had that activity that one time and it was fun. It’s going to be just like that! I mean who do you think you are reading an email from? (Wait, what?) Not the spectators of the drying paint club, no this is the UCSD Pep Band, so you know it will be awesome!

Saturday – Hockey – 10:30 P.M. (9:30 at the RIMAC cage)

Our first hockey game of the year! It is against our orange-loving rivals of the north, the Chapman Panthers. So let’s come and cheer on our team to victory and show my brother that I chose the better school!

Even if you can’t be at all the events, you are invited to come to everything you can make it to.

  • Yourself
  • Your instrument
  • Money for two fast food meals ($10-$15)
  • $35 dollars if you plan on buying your T-shirt/Hawaiian shirt/music at the retreat. These are $45 during the normal school year, so it’s a $10 discount!

  • A lyre stand-clip (if you own one).

What? Real Music?

Sep-2-2011 By Jon

Hellooooo pep band! Have you (yes, YOU) ever wondered where all those songs we play came from? Would you believe they were once actual songs before we started playing them? Crazy, right?

Anyway, if you would like to hear the original versions of our music, visit the links page to find three youtube playlists of our pep tunes in their original, electric guitar-filled glory.
